Ghana has announced that, effective May 25, 2026, all African nationals will no longer be required to pay visa application fees when travelling to the country. The move is rooted in the spirit of Pan-Africanism and reflects Ghana’s commitment to enhancing mobility, strengthening economic cooperation, and promoting people-to-people connections across the continent.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the policy aligns with Africa‘s broader integration agenda and is designed to make travel to Ghana more accessible for citizens of all African countries.

Despite the removal of visa fees, authorities emphasise that entry requirements remain in place. All applicants will still undergo comprehensive security screening in line with international standards. This includes full vetting processes linked to global API-PNR crime databases to ensure proper background checks are conducted.
To support the new policy, Ghana will introduce a modern e-visa platform in May 2026. The system will be available to applicants worldwide, including African nationals, and is intended to streamline the application process, improving speed, efficiency, and overall user experience.
The initiative, framed under the message “One Continent, One Welcome,” highlights Ghana’s broader effort to position itself as open for business while reinforcing unity across Africa.
