Pan-African Leadership Institute and University of the West Indies sign MoU to strengthen Africa-Caribbean collaboration

The Pan-African Leadership Institute (PALI) and the University of the West Indies (UWI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to usher in a new era of collaboration between Africa and the Caribbean.

The agreement, signed by Dr. Kofi Osei-Kusi, President of PALI, and Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice-Chancellor of UWI, establishes a framework for joint programmes, research initiatives, cultural exchanges, and leadership development experiences under the theme “Reimagining Opportunities for Leadership and Learning.”

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr. Prince Ayebie, Information Officer, highlighted UWI’s global recognition as one of the top 1.5 per cent of universities worldwide according to the Times Higher Education World Rankings. UWI, the leading institution in the Caribbean, has campuses at Cave Hill (Barbados), Five Islands (Antigua & Barbuda), Mona (Jamaica), St. Augustine (Trinidad & Tobago), and its Global Campus, which serves 17 Caribbean countries.

The statement further described UWI as one of the most respected academic networks in the region and beyond.

It also noted that PALI, an award-winning executive education institute, has empowered more than 1,200 senior leaders across 52 countries, equipping them to drive social, political, and economic transformation globally. The partnership, it said, strengthens PALI’s mission to develop holistic, conscientious, and entrepreneurial leaders for Africa and the wider world.

The MoU underscores the shared commitment of both institutions to create pathways of transformation connecting Africa, the Caribbean, and the global community.

“It is a bridge between Africa and the Caribbean, and together, PALI and UWI are shaping leaders who will reshape the future of global leadership with wisdom, innovation, and unity,” the statement added.
