GTA takes students on eco-tourism tour to mark World Tourism Day

The Western Regional Directorate of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has organised an educational tour to His Majesty Place Farm and Agro-tourism Centre, an eco-tourism site at Miawani in the Mpohor-Fiase District, as part of activities to celebrate this year’s World Tourism Day (WTD).

The tour brought together members of Tourist Clubs from Adiembra Senior High School (SHS), Fijai SHS, St. John’s SHS, and Sekondi College, alongside representatives of the Ghana Hotels Association.

This year’s WTD celebration was held under the theme: “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”

Mr. Henry Yeledour, Western Regional Director of the GTA, said the initiative aimed to help young people deepen their appreciation of Ghana’s natural heritage and to promote domestic tourism. He explained that the tour also formed part of broader strategies to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability in tourism.

“On the occasion of the World Tourism Day, we have brought these young ones here to expose them to one of the natural heritage sites in the country so that they will adopt the culture of exploring these unique places for sightseeing,” he said.

Mr. Yeledour, however, expressed concern over the poor state of access roads leading to tourist sites and urged government to fix them to make visits more enjoyable for tourists.

He commended the management of His Majesty Place Farm and Agro-tourism Centre for their efforts in maintaining the facility and offering visitors a memorable experience.

Mr. Clement Konadu, Western Regional Coordinator of the Tourism Society of Ghana, lauded the GTA for the initiative, describing it as a valuable learning opportunity for students.

“We hope to have more initiatives like this with the Ghana Tourism Authority so that we can go to places like this one and others to collectively help promote domestic tourism among the youth,” he said.

Miss Nadia Yaa Akufo, a student from Fijai SHS, thanked the GTA for organising the tour, noting that it was both fun and educational, and had deepened their knowledge of the country’s natural heritage sites.
