Government distributes laptops under One Million Coders Programme

The Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations has distributed laptops to selected public universities as part of the rollout of the One Million Coders Programme.

The initiative was led by the Minister, Samuel Nartey George, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, and aims to equip young Ghanaians with digital skills for the global technology-driven economy.

Beneficiary institutions include the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the University of Ghana, the University of Technology and Applied Science, and the University of Mines and Technology.

According to the Minister, the programme is designed to address the growing demand for digital skills locally and internationally, with access to tools such as laptops seen as essential for learning and innovation.

The initiative aims to train one million Ghanaians in coding, software development, and other digital competencies.

The distribution forms part of broader efforts to support youth development, job creation, entrepreneurship, and technological advancement.

The laptop rollout is expected to expand to more institutions and individuals nationwide as the programme progresses.
