The Ameer and Missionary-in-Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, Alhaji Maulvi Noor Mohammed Bin Salih, has reaffirmed that schools established by the Mission are intended to provide quality education and serve humanity, rather than promote religious indoctrination.

He said the Mission’s educational institutions are founded on the principles of discipline, morality and noble character, with a strong commitment to national development through education.

Maulvi Bin Salih made the remarks during the climax of the 50th anniversary celebration of Potsin T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, held under the theme, “50 Years of Educational Excellence: Potsin T.I. Ahmadiyya in Retrospective.”

The event was attended by government officials, Members of Parliament, ministers of state, alumni, parents and members of the public.

He noted that education remains essential to the progress of every nation and reaffirmed the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission’s commitment to expanding access to quality education across Ghana.

According to him, only about two to three per cent of students enrolled in T.I. Ahmadiyya schools are members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, demonstrating that the institutions primarily serve the wider Ghanaian public.

“Our interest is in the vulnerable. We do not establish schools for the purpose of indoctrination,” he stated.

Reflecting on the school’s achievements over the past five decades, Maulvi Bin Salih said Potsin T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School had produced many distinguished personalities and earned a reputation as one of the country’s preferred secondary schools.

He also paid tribute to the school’s founding fathers for their sacrifice and dedication in establishing and sustaining the institution.

The Second Lady, Mrs Samira Bawumia, commended the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission for its longstanding contribution to education in Ghana and praised old students for supporting the development of their alma mater.

She also highlighted the importance of the Free Senior High School policy in developing the skilled human resources needed to drive the country’s socio-economic growth.

Mrs Bawumia encouraged students to remain disciplined, believe in their abilities and strive for academic excellence.

In her report, the Headmistress, Hajia Zainab Adams, expressed concern over the school’s infrastructure challenges, revealing that despite its 50-year history, it still lacked an assembly hall and had been compelled to use the dining hall for official gatherings.

She also listed inadequate staff accommodation, the absence of a library, lack of an administrative vehicle and an inadequate science laboratory as major challenges facing the school.

Hajia Adams expressed appreciation to the government, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, the Parent-Teacher Association and the old students for their continued support towards the school’s development.

The anniversary celebration also featured the presentation of awards and citations to founding fathers, former principals, distinguished alumni, teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as students who excelled academically.

Potsin T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School was established in 1972 by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission under its Nusrat Jahan (Service to Humanity) programme with an initial enrolment of 14 students and four teachers, including the headmaster.
