Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has presented a state-of-the-art ultrasound diagnostic system to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Hospital to boost healthcare delivery at the facility.
The equipment, handed over on her behalf by Central Regional Minister Mr Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, features advanced imaging technology for obstetric and gynaecological assessments, abdominal and cardiac scans, vascular examinations, and maternal and foetal monitoring. It is expected to ease patient queues, enhance early disease detection, and support the management of chronic conditions such as cardiovascular diseases.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who served as UCC’s first female Vice Chancellor, reiterated her commitment to strengthening healthcare at the hospital to ease the burden on the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital. She urged hospital management to maintain the equipment and called on Ghanaians to prioritise their health.
Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong, Vice Chancellor of UCC, and hospital administrators expressed gratitude for the donation, describing it as a boost to maternal and child health services. Dr James Pra, Hospital Administrator, pledged proper maintenance of the system while appealing for more logistics, particularly ventilators, to expand intensive care services.
The Cape Coast Teaching Hospital currently operates the only intensive care unit serving the Central, Western and Western North regions, but it has just three beds.
