TTU admits 7,488 fresh students for new academic year

Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has admitted 7,488 students to pursue various academic programmes during the new academic year.

The students were officially welcomed into the university at a matriculation ceremony held on campus.

The university received a total of 8,272 applications, with 4,924 admitted students completing their registration. Of the registered students, 67.4 per cent are male while 32.6 per cent are female.

According to the university, 74 per cent of the fresh students have enrolled in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)-related programmes, with the remaining students pursuing business-related courses.

Addressing the matriculants, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Frank Eshun, reaffirmed the university’s vision of becoming a world-class technical university recognised for excellence, innovation and societal relevance.

He said TTU remained committed to providing quality technical education, training, research and consultancy services to support Ghana’s development and beyond.

Prof. Eshun urged the students to remain focused on their academic pursuits, cultivate critical thinking skills and strike a healthy balance between their studies and social life.

He advised them to develop good study habits and avoid procrastination, warning that the university would not tolerate examination malpractice.

“The university does not compromise on examination malpractices and those found culpable would be dismissed from the university,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor also encouraged students to develop workplace competencies, including teamwork, communication, time management, problem-solving, critical thinking, decision-making, interpersonal, entrepreneurial and leadership skills to enhance their employability and entrepreneurial potential.

He further advised students to avoid negative influences and social vices such as drug abuse, excessive alcohol consumption, promiscuity and occult practices, noting that such behaviours could derail their academic ambitions.

Prof. Eshun also called on the students to maintain a clean environment and comply with all campus safety protocols throughout their stay at the university.
