Ashanti Region announces Kente Week celebration from March 23-31

The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council has announced plans to celebrate Ashanti Kente Week from March 23 to March 31, 2026, as part of activities marking Ghana Month and the broader AshantiFest 2026 programme.

According to a press release issued in Kumasi, the initiative is aimed at promoting and celebrating the region’s rich cultural heritage while encouraging pride in Kente cloth, a globally recognised symbol of identity, craftsmanship and tradition of the Ashanti people.

The Council has therefore called on all government institutions, corporate organisations and public service establishments within the Ashanti Region to encourage staff to incorporate a touch of Kente in their attire throughout the week.

This can be done through full Kente cloth or Kente-inspired elements such as scarves, ribbons, ties, bow ties, pocket squares, lapel pins, brooches, headbands, belts and other accessories integrated into corporate wear.

Religious institutions, including churches and mosques, have also been encouraged to invite their congregations to participate by wearing Kente-inspired outfits during services within the week.

Institutions and religious bodies may choose to climax their participation on Friday, March 27; Saturday, March 28; or Sunday, March 29, depending on their respective worship schedules.

The Council further announced that, in collaboration with the Manhyia Palace, a grand finale event will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at the Kumasi Cultural Centre.

The event will feature cultural displays, a Traditional Food Fair, and a Music and Jama Festival, showcasing the history, cuisine and musical heritage of the Ashanti people.

Authorities have encouraged institutions, organisations and citizens to actively participate in the celebration to promote Ghana’s cultural identity and support local artisans and cultural industries
