A large number of parents and guardians thronged the Teacher’s Hall in Accra to address discrepancies in Senior High School (SHS) and Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) school placements for their wards.
Some parents said their children had been placed in schools they did not select, while others were assigned to special schools despite not requiring such placements. Mr. Smith Amankwah said his daughter was placed in a school for the deaf, even though she is not a special student. Madam Bernice Asamoah, who arrived as early as 4:00 a.m., said her daughter had been assigned to a school in the Oti Region, far from Accra, prompting her to seek a change. Mr. Eric Asiedu also came to change his daughter’s placement from a day school to a boarding school in the Central Region.

The Ministry of Education announced the release of school placements for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates. Out of 603,328 candidates, 590,309 qualified for placement, with 483,800 (82%) automatically assigned. However, 107,509 candidates could not be matched with their preferred schools due to high demand for Category A schools.
Corrections and adjustments are expected to continue over the coming weeks at the district, regional, and national levels to ensure students report to school and begin the academic year smoothly.
