The Coalition of Progressive Forces in Northern Ghana has postponed its planned demonstration in Tamale over the prevailing economic hardship in the country.
The protest, dubbed the “MIISIM Demonstration”, was originally scheduled to take place on August 20, 2022, but has been rescheduled to September 3, 2022.

In a statement, the organisers said the decision was taken following the passing of two distinguished sons of Dagbon who held prominent leadership positions within the kingdom.
The coalition explained that, in line with Dagbon customs and traditions, it was appropriate for residents to mourn with the Ya-Na and the people of Dagbon during the period of bereavement.
“As citizens and residents of Dagbon, and as custom demands, we must all mourn with the King and people of Dagbon in these times of sadness,” the group stated.
The organisers also disclosed that they had sought and received the approval of traditional authorities in Tamale before announcing the demonstration.
According to the coalition, it would have been inappropriate to proceed with a public protest involving music, drumming and chanting while the traditional leaders who had endorsed the event were observing a period of mourning.
“We could never have sought permission to stage the demonstration without first consulting the leading chiefs of Tamale. The chiefs gave us their blessings without hesitation, and for that reason, we cannot come onto the streets of Tamale to sing, play music, beat drums and chant slogans while they are in a state of mourning,” the statement said.
The coalition appealed to supporters, particularly the youth, to remain committed to the demonstration and prepare for the new date.
It urged participants to wear red attire and mobilise others to ensure a strong turnout when the protest takes place on September 3.
