The Ghana Adventist Health Services of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA) has affirmed its commitment to partner with government to support the completion of some Agenda 111 projects across the country.

The commitment was made when an SDA delegation led by Dr. James Antwi paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

The delegation presented a proposal outlining four key areas of focus: trauma care, holistic wellness, oncology and cancer treatment, and rehabilitation and health services. The proposal seeks to position the SDA Church as a strategic partner in strengthening healthcare delivery, particularly in underserved communities.

Mr. Akandoh emphasised the need for collaboration, noting that government alone cannot meet the growing demands of the health sector. He called on faith-based institutions, including the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), and private sector players to support the completion and operationalisation of Agenda 111 facilities.

The Minister commended the SDA Church for its longstanding contribution to healthcare delivery, particularly in deprived areas, and expressed appreciation for its continued commitment.

He pledged government’s support to guide partners willing to invest directly in completing Agenda 111 facilities, explaining that such partnerships would involve direct support towards project completion rather than financial contributions to government.

The Minister also encouraged CHAG and private sector players to identify specific projects and areas of interest, assuring them of government’s direction and support for successful delivery.

Mr. Akandoh reiterated his position that doctors must accept postings to designated areas to improve healthcare delivery nationwide.

He further disclosed that government plans to construct six regional hospitals in the newly created regions, with funding provided for three to be constructed in 2026 and the remaining three scheduled for 2027.

The Minister also disclosed that two cardiology centres are being constructed in Tamale and at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to expand access to specialised cardiac care. He added that the cardiac catheterisation laboratory at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital had recently been installed and commissioned by President John Dramani Mahama.

On broader health sector reforms, Mr. Akandoh highlighted three major government interventions: the Free Primary Healthcare initiative, the uncapping of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund.

He said the interventions are intended to accelerate Ghana’s progress towards achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2030.

The engagement marks a step towards strengthened collaboration between government and faith-based health institutions in delivering accessible and quality healthcare across Ghana.
