Daylight Events marks World Heart Day with aerobics session in Tema

Daylight Events Organisation has held a special aerobics session in Tema to mark World Heart Day and raise awareness about the importance of keeping fit.

The one-hour event brought together eight fitness clubs within the Tema Metropolis, including the Tema Joint Church Fitness Club and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) Fitness Club.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Nana Yaw Danso, Director of Events for Daylight Events, said the activity was part of the 2025 global commemoration of World Heart Day under the theme “Don’t Skip the Beat.”

He explained that regular physical activity helps the body, especially the heart, and encouraged the public to join fitness clubs or adopt home-based exercises such as brisk walking. He also advised against sedentary lifestyles, smoking, and alcoholism, stressing the need for regular health screenings to prevent cardiovascular diseases.

Mr. Yaw Adjei Addo, instructor for Tema Joint Church Fitness Club, reminded participants that fitness should not rely solely on trainers. “The basic form of physical activity is walking for at least 30 minutes daily to improve the body’s fitness,” he said, adding that people should work out according to their strength and rest when overstrained.

Ms. Ethel Edifor of the GPHA Fitness Club highlighted that aerobics enhances blood circulation to the heart and other body organs.

Medical doctor, Dr. Sam Darkwah of Sinel Specialist Hospital, also educated participants on the risk factors of cardiovascular disease, such as hypertension, smoking, age, and gender. He outlined symptoms including chest pain, tightness, difficulty breathing, dizziness, nausea, and even loss of consciousness.

He commended the organisers and urged Ghanaians to monitor their heart health through regular medical check-ups.
