Awake Drinking Water donates GHS 150,000 to support heart disease treatment at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital

Awake Drinking Water, a subsidiary of Kasapreko Company Limited, on Monday donated GHS 150,000 to support the treatment of heart diseases at the National Cardiothoracic Centre, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The donation, made in observance of this year’s World Heart Day, is expected to provide financial relief to patients undergoing open-heart surgery.

Ms. Linda Naomi Aidoo, Marketing Managing Director of Kasapreko, said the contribution forms part of the company’s quarterly donation initiative, which has supported about 140 heart surgeries since its inception in 2016.

Mr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, Director of the National Cardiothoracic Centre, expressed gratitude to Awake Drinking Water for their ongoing support. He advised the public to adopt healthier lifestyles by including more vegetables and fewer carbohydrates in their diets, avoiding refined sugars and processed foods, maintaining adequate sleep, exercising at least 25 minutes daily, and having regular health check-ups to detect diseases early.

World Heart Day, celebrated annually on September 29, aims to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases such as heart failure. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), cardiovascular diseases account for about 34 percent of deaths related to non-communicable diseases. This year’s celebration is themed: “Don’t miss a beat.”
