Gomoa Assin (C/R), Sept. 17 – Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobia II, Paramount Chief of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Area, and his people have been commended for the peaceful celebration of the 2025 Ahorbaa Kese festival.
Mr. Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere, Central Regional Minister, delivered the commendation on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama at a colourful durbar held at Gomoa Assin to climax the two-week festival. This year’s celebration, themed “Celebrating the heroism of Egya Ahor: uniting people of Gomoa for development,” sought to raise funds for an ultra-modern Traditional Council complex.

The durbar featured chiefs, queen mothers, family heads, and cultural groups from all 265 towns and villages in the traditional area, dressed in rich regalia and accompanied by traditional drumming, brass band music, and dancing. Obirifo Ankobia and other chiefs were carried in palanquins to receive homage from their people.
President Mahama, in a message read on his behalf, urged traditional leaders to continue preserving customs while supporting national development. He thanked the people of Gomoa for their support during the 2024 elections and assured them of ongoing projects, including road construction and the establishment of an industrial hub to create jobs and attract investment.
Mr. Okyere called on chiefs to make land available for these initiatives to spur economic growth. Obirifo Ankobia appealed to citizens to contribute towards the Traditional Council building project, urging unity and sacrifice in the spirit of Egya Ahor.
Ambassador Prof. Hugh Keku Aryee, Vanuatu’s Trade Commissioner to Ghana and chair of the durbar, highlighted the importance of cultural bonds between Ghana and Vanuatu, stressing that festivals foster unity, resilience, and opportunities for sustainable growth.
The durbar was attended by several dignitaries, including Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, Omanhen of Abeadze; Osagyefo Amanfu Edu VI, Chief of Mankessim; Mr. Richard Gyan-Mensah, Deputy Minister for Energy; Madam Margaret Naana Ackon, MP for Gomoa West; Alhaji Mohammed Kassim, DCE for Gomoa East; and officials of the African Diaspora Central Bank.
