The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has proposed the annulment of the 2020 parliamentary election in the Buem Constituency to allow for a fresh election that would enable residents of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe and Lolobi (SALL) to elect a Member of Parliament.
Addressing Parliament, Mr Dame said a new election was the most appropriate way to ensure the people of SALL exercised their constitutional right to representation in the Eighth Parliament.

Residents of the SALL traditional areas were unable to vote in the 2020 parliamentary elections following the creation of the Guan District but participated in the presidential election while awaiting the establishment of the Guan Constituency.
The Attorney General disclosed that the Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) required to establish the Guan Constituency was with the Electoral Commission and would soon be laid before Parliament.
He maintained that under Constitutional Instrument 128, the SALL areas remain part of the Buem Constituency and argued that a lawful parliamentary election involving all eligible voters in the constituency was necessary.
“There is no law that places SALL under the Buem Constituency other than C.I. 128,” he told Parliament, adding that a properly conducted election was required to elect a representative for the entire constituency.
However, the Member of Parliament for Buem, Kofi Adams, criticised the proposal, describing it as evidence of the government’s inability to effectively manage the constituency creation process.
He argued that previous adjustments to constituency boundaries had not resulted in similar challenges and accused the government of incompetence in handling the SALL issue.
Mr Adams, however, said he was prepared to contest any fresh parliamentary election should one be held.
