The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has given authorities of the Metro Mass Transit terminal at Kaneshie First Light 24 hours to clean their surroundings or face legal action.
The directive was issued on Thursday, September 3, 2026, when the Mayor stopped at Kaneshie First Light on his return from a working visit to the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) project site in front of Accra Academy.

Addressing drivers at the terminal, the Mayor expressed concern about the poor sanitary conditions and said the Assembly would not tolerate filth at public transport terminals.
He said transport terminals, markets, shops and other public spaces must reflect the Assembly’s sanitation drive, adding that managers of public facilities have a responsibility to keep their surroundings clean at all times.
Mr. Allotey warned that the Assembly would take legal action against the authorities of the terminal if they failed to clean the area within the 24-hour deadline.
The Mayor also cautioned shop owners against displaying and selling their wares on pavements, saying the practice obstructs pedestrian movement and contributes to disorder along major roads.
