King Mohammed VI directs high-level consultation to refine Morocco’s autonomy initiative within national sovereignty framework

By the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, a high-level meeting was convened on Monday at the Royal Office, chaired by His Majesty’s Advisors Taib Fassi Fihri, Omar Azziman, and Fouad Ali El Himma.

The meeting gathered leaders of national political parties represented in both Houses of Parliament, alongside the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates.

In accordance with the Royal Decision announced in His Majesty’s Speech of October 31, following the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797, the session focused on updating and detailing the formulation of the autonomy initiative within the framework of Morocco‘s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

This high-level consultation reflects His Majesty’s enduring commitment to participatory governance and inclusive national dialogue on matters of strategic importance. His Advisors conveyed the Sovereign’s determination to involve the country’s political leadership in refining the autonomy proposal and invited parties to contribute their respective visions and proposals to the updated framework.

Political party leaders expressed deep appreciation for the Royal Initiative, welcoming the recent positive developments surrounding the Moroccan Sahara issue. They commended His Majesty’s decision to engage all national forces and institutions in shaping a comprehensive and detailed autonomy plan under Morocco’s full sovereignty.

Participants emphasised that the initiative will form a solid foundation for the return of citizens from the Tindouf camps, their reintegration into national life, and their participation in managing local affairs within a unified and sovereign Morocco, as reaffirmed by His Majesty in His recent Speech.

The party leaders reiterated their unwavering support for His Majesty the King’s leadership and his tireless efforts to safeguard Morocco’s legitimate rights and strengthen the Moroccanness of the Sahara.

They highlighted that the latest UN Security Council resolution further endorses the autonomy initiative as a credible, realistic, and viable solution to the regional dispute, anchored in the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity.

In response to the Royal call, political party heads pledged to submit memoranda detailing their proposals and perspectives on the autonomy initiative to His Majesty the King in His August Person in the coming days.
