Chief of Anyima petitions government to intervene in Nkoranza-Mo land dispute amid rising tensions

Obrempong Amponsem II, Chief of Anyima in the Nkoranza traditional area, has petitioned the government to intervene in escalating tensions between youths of the Nkoranza and Mo (Dega) communities over a longstanding land boundary dispute. The renewed conflict in recent days has sparked fear and panic among residents in Kintampo, Nkoranza, and surrounding areas.

Speaking at the Yam Festival in Anyima, the Chief warned that if the situation is not addressed promptly, it could result in loss of lives and property, noting that threats had recently been made by some aggrieved youths along the land borders. “It is important for the government to take the necessary measures through the security agencies to bring the issue under control. We have always co-existed peacefully, but these recent developments are not friendly, and we cannot allow it to continue,” he emphasised.

Obrempong Amponsem II highlighted that intermarriages between the communities had fostered strong social bonds, which needed to be preserved. He also praised the harmony among Muslims, Christians, and traditional believers in the area, stressing that peace should not be underestimated. The Chief warned that failure to maintain tolerance in these predominantly farming communities could negatively impact Ghana’s broader development agenda.
