Mobile money operator shot dead at residence in Garu

A mobile money operator has been shot dead at his residence in Garu in the Upper East Region, sparking fear and concern among residents.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred late in the evening when unknown assailants reportedly attacked the victim at his home. The attackers are said to have fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Residents who heard the gunshots rushed to the scene and found the victim unresponsive. He was later confirmed dead. His identity has not yet been officially released by authorities pending notification of family members.

Police officers from the area responded to the incident and have since launched an investigation. The body has been conveyed for preservation and autopsy as part of ongoing inquiries.

While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, some residents suspect it may be linked to robbery, given the nature of the victim’s work as a mobile money operator. However, police say it is too early to draw conclusions and have urged the public to avoid speculation.

The killing has heightened anxiety within the community, particularly among mobile money vendors who have in recent years become targets of violent attacks.

Security officials have assured residents that efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice. They have also encouraged members of the public to volunteer credible information that could assist with investigations.
