President John Dramani Mahama returned to Ghana on Thursday afternoon after a five-day state visit to China, where he was invited by Chinese President Xi Jinping. On arrival at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, he was welcomed by Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

During his visit to Beijing, President Mahama, who serves as the African Union Champion for Gender and Development Issues, participated in the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, co-hosted by China and UN Women. The meeting reaffirmed commitments made 30 years ago at the Fourth World Conference on Women, emphasising continued efforts toward women’s empowerment.
The state visit also included bilateral discussions between President Mahama and President Xi Jinping, as well as meetings with the Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Li Qiang. In addition, President Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama took part in the Presidential Business Forum in Beijing, underscoring Ghana’s engagement in international economic and developmental dialogues.
