The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force, in collaboration with the Blue Water Guards, has raided illegal mining sites along the Ankobra river in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region.
In a statement, NAIMOS explained that the operation was prompted by the alarming environmental devastation caused by galamsey activities in the area, as well as credible intelligence from local informants and the Blue Water Guards.

During the raid, the Task Force destroyed 50 Chanfang machines, polytanks, generators, pipelines, and several makeshift structures used as shelters by miners. Other confiscated items included refrigerators, motorbikes, PVC pipes, and excavator parts.
Although drone footage revealed large numbers of miners operating on the river, no arrests were made, as the miners fled upon spotting the heavily mobilized team.
NAIMOS reaffirmed its commitment to fighting illegal mining, stressing that it will continue to work closely with the Blue Water Guards to protect Ghana’s water bodies and forest reserves from destruction.
