Mahama commends Ghana Armed Forces for clearing Accra-Kumasi Expressway right-of-way

President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has commended the Engineer Regiments of the Ghana Armed Forces for completing the clearing of the Right-of-Way for the 198.7-kilometre, six-lane Accra-Kumasi Expressway in 19 weeks, one week ahead of schedule.

In recognition of their exceptional service, President Mahama has directed that the Engineer Regiments receive the Order of the Companion of the Volta at the next National Honours.

He also announced that $2 billion has been set aside to finance the project, with the full amount expected to be available by December 31, 2026, without borrowing.

President Mahama further announced plans to return to Kwaso before Christmas to break ground for construction, describing the project as a major step towards transforming Ghana’s transportation network.

The completed expressway is expected to improve the movement of people and goods between Ghana’s two largest cities while strengthening trade, agriculture, industry and economic activity along the corridor.
