Tarkwa-Nsuaem MCE granted GH¢100,000 bail over alleged assault and offensive conduct

The Sekondi-Takoradi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Abdul Mumin Issah, has been granted a GH¢100,000 self-recognisance bail by the Takoradi Circuit Court ‘A’ after being charged with offensive conduct, disturbing public peace, and assault on a public officer.

The charges followed his arrest by the police after he allegedly breached road traffic regulations and insulted a police officer during an encounter at a checkpoint.

According to reports, the MCE allegedly used the wrong side of the road to avoid traffic, leading to a confrontation with a police officer who stopped him. The incident reportedly occurred at a checkpoint near Kwasimintim cemetery.

The MCE was accused of verbally abusing the officer and allegedly threatening to use his position to have the officer transferred from his duty station.

He pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

His lawyer, Samuel Kofi Agbota, appealed to the court to grant him bail, arguing that the offences were bailable.

The court subsequently granted him bail with three sureties and adjourned the case to March 17, 2022, for further hearing.
