A security guard popularly referred to as “Ebo Noah” has been charged and remanded for publishing false news after spreading a hoax about a world-ending flood and a supposed ark in Elmina.
Between August and December 2025, the suspect circulated several videos on TikTok, YouTube and Facebook, claiming that a global flood would occur on December 25, 2025, and that he was constructing an “ark” to save people.

In the videos, he made statements interpreted by authorities as confirming the date of the alleged flood.
The claims caused fear and panic among the public. On December 25, 2025, a number of people travelled to Elmina carrying personal belongings, including bags, Bibles and passports, saying they had come to board the ark to escape the flood. No such vessel existed.
Following investigations, the Ghana Police Service traced and arrested the suspect at a hideout on December 31, 2025.
In a caution statement, he admitted creating and circulating the videos and confessed that the claims were false and his own fabrication. He further disclosed that the so-called ark was a fisherman’s boat at a boatyard in Edina in the Central Region and did not belong to him.
The suspect has been charged under Section 76 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775) for publishing false news with intent to cause fear and panic. Upon conviction, the offence attracts a fine of up to 3,000 penalty units, imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
A court has ordered that the suspect undergo a psychiatric examination at a government facility to determine his mental state. He has been remanded in custody and is expected to reappear in court on January 15, 2026, as investigations continue.
