Ghana School of Law SRC President rejects interdiction, calls it unconstitutional

The embattled Students Representative Council (SRC) President of the Ghana School of Law, Wonder Victor Kutor, has described his purported interdiction as unconstitutional, insisting that he remains in office.

Mr Kutor said the SRC Secretary does not have the authority to declare his interdiction, arguing that only the SRC Supreme Court has the mandate to remove him from office.

A letter dated April 17, 2022, and signed by the SRC Secretary stated that Mr Kutor had been interdicted to allow investigations into allegations of procurement malfeasance.

However, speaking to Citi News, Mr Kutor maintained that he was still at post and that the matter was already before the SRC Supreme Court.

“Management has indicated that they are investigating the matter. The matter is also before the SRC Supreme Court. I was elected by the students of the Ghana School of Law, so how can the Secretary say that they have interdicted the President, which is the highest position of the SRC? It is unconstitutional,” he said.

The SRC President is facing allegations of financial impropriety, including claims that he facilitated the purchase of a vehicle for the SRC from a company he previously owned and acquired another vehicle for personal use under questionable circumstances.

He has also been accused of operating an SRC-owned Mobile Money business under his company’s name and allegedly diverting proceeds from the venture for personal use.

The SRC Executive Council said it had questioned Mr Kutor over the allegations but was not satisfied with his responses, leading to the formation of a committee to investigate the matter.

Mr Kutor has denied all allegations, stating that the SRC purchased a used Toyota Corolla valued at GH¢62,000 from a company he was formerly the sole proprietor of, but that he disclosed his connection to the company.

He added that he was not a member of the SRC procurement committee and did not take part in its decisions.

On the Mobile Money business allegations, Mr Kutor explained that he only donated his merchant SIM to support the SRC’s operations and denied any wrongdoing.
