First Bank Ghana opens Tamale branch to boost financial inclusion and growth

Tamale, Ghana – First Bank Ghana has inaugurated a new branch in Tamale as part of efforts to expand financial inclusion and stimulate economic growth in the northern part of the country.

Speaking at the opening, Mr. Victor Yaw Asante, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Bank Ghana, said the new branch represented more than a banking hall, describing it as “a long-term investment in partnership, empowerment, and shared prosperity with the people of northern Ghana.”

He highlighted Tamale’s role as the commercial hub of the north, linking key agricultural and trade corridors, but noted that formal banking penetration in the region remains below 40 per cent. Establishing a branch there, he said, would help support livelihoods, grow businesses, and power the local economy.

The CEO announced that the Tamale branch would deliver tailored services for the market, including credit facilities for micro, small, and medium enterprises, farmers, and professionals with flexible repayment terms. He added that the bank would roll out agent and mobile banking channels to underserved communities and offer financial education to guide customers.

Located along the Tamale Teaching Hospital Road, the branch will operate under a hybrid model combining digital platforms, in-branch services, and community outreach. Mr. Asante assured residents that the bank, a subsidiary of the First Bank Group founded in 1894, would extend its legacy of trust and stability to the north.

“Our presence here is a commitment to excellence, empowerment, and inclusive growth,” he said, pledging support for schools, partnerships with businesses, and collaboration with traditional authorities.

Mr. Mumuni Abdul Aziz, President of the Mobile Money Banking Association, welcomed the new branch, describing it as a catalyst for business growth and improved security for operators.

Mr. Yakubu Adam, a long-standing customer of the bank since 2013, also commended First Bank Ghana for its consistent delivery of quality service.
