NHIA waives one-month NHIS waiting period to boost active membership

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has removed the standard one-month waiting period for all newly enrolled members of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), as well as individuals renewing their membership after more than three months of expiry.

In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency, the Authority said the waiver, effective throughout November until December 14, 2025, allows eligible members who renew or enrol during the NHIS Active Month to access healthcare services immediately.

According to the NHIA, the initiative is part of a broader nationwide campaign to encourage active membership and ensure no one is excluded from essential healthcare. The Authority urged individuals with lapsed membership to renew promptly to continue enjoying affordable, quality care.

Members can renew through the MyNHIS App, available on the Apple and Play Stores, or via the short code *929#, with an option to activate Auto-Renewal for added convenience. For assistance, the NHIS Call Centre can be reached on 6447 (MTN/Vodafone) or 054-444-6447.
