Ghana Statistical Service reaffirms commitment to quality data and national partnerships on World Statistics Day

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has reiterated its dedication to strengthening collaborations across the national statistical system to ensure the production of high-quality, reliable data. In a statement marking this year’s World Statistics Day, themed “Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone,” the Service emphasised that coordinated efforts would uphold standards and make every dataset contribute meaningfully to national development.

The GSS highlighted that quality statistics are more than numbers, describing them as the foundation of progress, a reflection of national realities, and a guide for policy decisions. “Statistics tell the story of our people, their living conditions, opportunities, and challenges, and ensure that decisions are based on evidence rather than assumption,” the statement noted.

Recognising that the credibility of policies hinges on the integrity of data, the GSS affirmed that all censuses, surveys, and statistical releases adhere to internationally recognised standards to guarantee accuracy, consistency, and comparability. The Service also stressed that rigorous methodology and transparency strengthen public trust in statistics across government, business, academia, and civil society.

In a push toward modernisation, the GSS is integrating digital tools, data science techniques, and automation, enhancing efficiency, reducing delays, and expanding access to real-time, high-quality information.

The statement praised the contributions of partners and collaborators throughout the national statistical system, whose support reinforces the production and use of official data in Ghana. Concluding, the GSS affirmed: “As Ghana continues its journey towards evidence-based development, one message stands clear: quality statistics are for everyone, and they belong to everyone.”
