Ho fire station trains NCA, NPA Staff in emergency Preparedness

The Ho Municipal Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has conducted a fire simulation exercise at the National Communications Authority (NCA) Tower to enhance emergency response and safety awareness among staff of the Authority and the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).

The exercise, led by Divisional Officer Grade II (DOII) Seth Tay, focused on evacuation procedures, practical firefighting techniques, and the effective use of fire extinguishers in emergencies. It formed part of the GNFS’s ongoing public safety campaign aimed at promoting fire prevention and preparedness across workplaces in the Volta Region.

Mr Tay said the simulation was organised to test the readiness of staff to respond appropriately in the event of a fire outbreak. “We want to ensure that workers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to protect lives and property. Fire safety is a shared responsibility, and training like this helps reduce panic and confusion during real incidents,” he explained.

He urged corporate institutions to regularly organise similar drills to strengthen their workplace safety systems and improve coordination during emergencies.

During the session, staff were taken through step-by-step evacuation procedures, alarm activation, and the correct handling of fire extinguishers and hoses. Participants also received education on identifying fire hazards, maintaining clear exit routes, and responding swiftly to alarms to minimise casualties and property loss.

Ms Diana Adom, a staff member of the NCA, praised the Ghana National Fire Service for the practical session, describing it as an “eye-opener that brings safety lessons to life.” She noted that the training had boosted staff confidence and equipped them with the right mindset to act calmly and effectively during fire emergencies.

Other participants expressed appreciation for the hands-on experience and pledged to share the knowledge gained with colleagues to enhance overall workplace safety.

Mr Tay reaffirmed the GNFS’s commitment to sustaining collaboration with institutions in the region to promote fire safety consciousness and compliance with safety standards. He stated that the Ho Municipal Fire Station would continue to conduct regular fire education and drills as part of its preventive strategy to safeguard lives and property within the municipality.
