President Mahama Invites Singaporean Investors

President John Dramani Mahama has extended a strong invitation to Singaporean business leaders and investors, assuring them that Ghana is fully open for business and ready to partner for sustainable growth. Addressing the Eighth Africa-Singapore Business Forum in Singapore City under the theme “Bridging Capabilities, Charting Sustainable Growth”, he emphasized Ghana’s role as a trusted gateway to West Africa, with ECOWAS offering access to over 400 million consumers. He pointed to political stability, a rules-based business environment, and a double taxation agreement with Singapore as key enablers, adding that 69 Singaporean companies already have cumulative investments exceeding $2 billion in Ghana.

The President highlighted ongoing economic reforms, including stabilization of the cedi, easing inflation, and regulatory simplification through Business Regulatory Reforms and amendments to the Investment Promotion Act. These measures, he said, would make it easier for foreign investors to establish businesses, joint ventures, and wholly-owned operations. He also noted that the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre now provides detailed sector-specific opportunity maps to guide credible decision-making for investors.

Mahama underscored Ghana’s “24-Hour Economy” strategy, anchored on productivity, exports, and job creation, with investments in round-the-clock infrastructure, farms, factories, and ports. At its core is the Volta Economic Corridor, which integrates large-scale irrigation projects, agro-industrial parks, tourism along Lake Volta, and a cost-efficient inland transport system. Complementary catalytic projects such as the Legon Pharmaceutical Innovation Park, Kumasi Machinery and Technology Park, and renewable energy corridors are being developed to accelerate growth and attract private capital.

The President further proposed five key pillars for Ghana-Singapore cooperation: green supply chains to modernize logistics, agribusiness partnerships to boost food security, clean energy and carbon markets, digital economy and services development, and advanced manufacturing leveraging Ghana’s critical minerals like lithium and manganese. He stressed that Singapore’s expertise perfectly aligns with Ghana’s priorities and expressed appreciation for Enterprise Singapore’s support in building investment bridges. He concluded that through joint efforts in project preparation, blended finance, and SME matchmaking, Ghana and Singapore can scale successful models and translate agreements into real, impactful business operations.
