Black Stars thumb Madagascar 3-0 to strengthen lead in World Cup qualification bid

Ghana’s Black Stars delivered a commanding performance to defeat Madagascar 3-0, boosting their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The game started on a strong note for the Black Stars, who took an early lead in the 10th minute. A well-taken free kick was lofted over the Madagascar defence, allowing Thomas Partey to rise highest and head home the opener.

Despite falling behind, Madagascar showed intent and sought an equalizer. In the 23rd minute, Rayan Reveloson attempted a long-range strike, but his effort failed to trouble Hearts of Oak’s goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare.

Ghana maintained their tactical approach, using quick positional play while staying compact in midfield. This forced Madagascar into mistakes, with Baggio picking up a yellow card in the 25th minute after a tough challenge on Jordan Ayew.

The first half ended 1-0 in Ghana’s favour, with both sides having moments of possession. However, Madagascar’s desperation to level the score was evident.

The second half saw the Black Stars assert their dominance, creating multiple scoring opportunities. Mohammed Kudus fired a shot wide, while Jordan Ayew also came close but missed the target.

Madagascar’s forward Warren Caddy made attempts to break through Ghana’s solid defence, but the Black Stars remained resilient.

Ghana doubled their lead in the 53rd minute with another Thomas Partey header. Jordan Ayew, who was instrumental throughout the match, delivered a pinpoint corner kick that the Arsenal midfielder powered into the net.

The Black Stars continued to apply pressure, and just five minutes later, Jordan Ayew dazzled the opposition with brilliant dribbling before setting up Mohammed Kudus, who confidently slotted in the third goal in the 58th minute.

With this, Jordan Ayew completed a hat-trick of assists, capping off an excellent display.

Ghana controlled possession heading into the final stages of the game. In the 71st minute, Iñaki Williams replaced Antoine Semenyo as the Black Stars made their first substitution, shortly after Madagascar had made three changes of their own.

Madagascar attempted to find a consolation goal, with El Hadary Raheriniana curling a shot from the left just outside the box in the 74th minute. However, Benjamin Asare was equal to the task, making a crucial save.

With seven minutes left on the clock, Ghana held on to their comfortable 3-0 lead and saw out the match without conceding.

The victory places the Black Stars at the top of Group I in the World Cup qualifiers with a five-point lead, strengthening their push for a place in the 2026 tournament.
