A long-standing chieftaincy dispute at Gomoa Obuasi in the Central Region turned violent, leaving six people injured, including the head of the Asona Royal Family, Agya Amoh. The latest clash, which occurred during a meeting, also resulted in damage to property.

The conflict stems from the recent installation of Mr. Kwabena Atta as caretaker chief by the Omanhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council, Obrempong Nyanful Krampah. This decision has been met with resistance from the town’s Regent, who has refused to relinquish authority, leading to ongoing tensions.

The violence erupted when supporters of one faction attacked their rivals during the meeting, pelting them with stones. Witnesses say the assault, which happened between 9 and 10 a.m., caused severe damage to several buildings, including the palace, and two vehicles.

A community leader, Nana Mbir Asomako, recounted the chaos and fears of further unrest. “We saw stones flying through the air, shattering roofs and damaging property. They claim they do not fear the police and will continue to terrorize us. We had intelligence that they planned to burn the entire place down, so we left for our safety. The police have been informed,” he said.

No arrests have been made yet. Residents are calling for swift intervention from authorities to prevent further violence.
