Ghana and Panama sign MoU to commence bilateral political consultations

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, together with his Panamanian counterpart, His Excellency Javier Eduardo Martínez-Acha Vásquez, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to officially commence bilateral political consultations. The signing took place on 20th September 2026, on the margins of the ongoing UN General Assembly Session in New York.

The MoU seeks to deepen and structure cooperation between Ghana and Panama, particularly in maritime affairs, cocoa production, enhanced trade and mutual technical assistance in the extractive sector.

On a light-hearted note, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa took the opportunity to reconcile with Panama after Ghana’s Senior National Football team, the Black Stars, defeated Panama at the just-ended World Cup.
