The Wa High Court has sentenced 42-year-old Elyasu Kunateh to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a seven-year-old boy in Wa, Upper West Region.
The Upper West Regional Police Command said the incident occurred on 17 January 2026 and was reported by the victim’s mother. Kunateh was arrested on 20 January after police launched investigations.

The victim was taken to a medical facility for examination and received psychosocial support, while the accused was remanded into police custody pending trial.
On 23 July 2026, Justice Osei-Wusu Antwi found Kunateh guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in hard labour.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and urged the public to report suspected cases of child abuse, sexual offences and gender-based violence to the nearest police station.
