Mfantsipim School’s bid to successfully defend its Central Regional title at the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) suffered a major setback after losing to Ghana National College in the regional semi-finals.
The two-time regional champions were edged out by a single point in a closely contested contest that also featured Edinaman Senior High School.

Mfantsipim made a strong start, topping the opening round with 20 points. Ghana National College followed with 14 points, while Edinaman SHS scored seven.
However, Ghana National College turned the contest around during the speed race, taking a narrow one-point lead with 24 points against Mfantsipim’s 23.
The momentum remained with Ghana National College in the third round as they maintained their slender advantage, leaving Mfantsipim chasing the game.
Despite a spirited comeback attempt, Mfantsipim were unable to overturn the deficit, with Ghana National College holding on to secure victory and advance to the regional final.
The defeat marked a disappointing end to Mfantsipim’s campaign to retain the title they won in 2021, when they defeated Adisadel College, University Practice SHS and Assin State College with 53 points to claim the Central Regional Championship.
Ghana National College’s victory earned them a place in the regional final, but they were unable to lift the title.
Adisadel College emerged as champions of the 2022 NSMQ Central Regional Championship after defeating St Augustine’s College, Ghana National College and University Practice SHS in the final.
