Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has accused the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) of using stringent bail conditions to prolong the detention of its member, Dennis “Miracles” Aboagye.

In a post he made on X, the party claimed Aboagye, who was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport on Saturday, had previously honoured invitations from investigators and was not a flight risk.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah further alleged that he was denied access to his lawyers on Saturday and Sunday, despite EOCO not intending to question him until Monday.

According to the party, Aboagye was granted bail of GHC50 million on Monday night with three sureties, two of whom must be justified.

His lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, described the bail conditions as excessive, questioning how the requirements could be met at such short notice.

He also claimed that two of its communicators had been arrested within three days, alleging a pattern of politically motivated arrests aimed at suppressing dissent. The party urged state institutions to uphold constitutional rights and avoid being used for political purposes.

EOCO has, however, said Aboagye’s arrest followed investigations initiated after it received a petition from the Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCOD), requesting further investigations into a forensic audit covering the period from August 1, 2022, to February 2, 2025.
