GTEC warns public against unaccredited institutions and learning centres

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has cautioned prospective students, parents and guardians against enrolling in unaccredited learning centres and institutions with expired accreditation.

In a public notice issued on July 8, 2026, GTEC said several learning centres operating under public universities have not been accredited by the Commission.

The affected public university learning centres include:

  • University of Ghana Learning Centres in Koforidua, Cape Coast, Tamale, Ho/Tsito, Wa, Bolgatanga and Sunyani.
  • University of Education, Winneba Learning Centres at Jayee University College, Accra, and St. Theresa’s College, Anaji-Takoradi.
  • University for Development Studies Learning Centres at Wa and Chereponi.
  • Takoradi Technical University campuses at Akatakyi and Butumagyebi.
  • Methodist University Ghana campuses in Tema and Wenchi.

GTEC also announced that the institutional accreditation of 36 institutions has expired, including Lakeside University College, Zenith University College, Jayee University College, ILMA Institute of Science and Technology, Oak City International College, Royal Nursing College, and several other institutions across the country.

The Commission urged the public to verify the accreditation status of all institutions, learning centres and academic programmes directly with GTEC before applying for admission.

It warned that enrolling in unaccredited institutions or learning centres could result in the loss of time, money and future career opportunities.
