OSP denies involvement in alleged raid on Ken Ofori-Atta’s home

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has denied any involvement in the reported raid on the home of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, dismissing claims of its participation as baseless.

Media reports on Tuesday, February 11, suggested that unidentified men—described in various accounts as police officers, military personnel, OSP officials, or political thugs—stormed Mr Ofori-Atta’s Cantonments residence in his absence, with only his wife allegedly present. However, the reports provided no details on the motive for the operation or whether anything was taken.

Addressing the issue at a press briefing on Wednesday, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng categorically stated that his office had no connection to the purported raid. He further suggested that the incident, if it occurred, may have been staged to create the impression of persecution.

“When the OSP enters your premises, you will not be in doubt. Our personnel have distinct insignia and a structured method of conducting searches,” Mr Agyebeng clarified.

According to him, intelligence gathered by the OSP suggests that the raid was either staged or carried out by impostors attempting to misrepresent the office’s actions and interfere with ongoing investigations.

Ofori-Atta declared fugitive

The Special Prosecutor also addressed concerns regarding Ken Ofori-Atta’s prolonged absence from the country, describing him as a fugitive from justice.

He dismissed claims by Mr Ofori-Atta’s lawyers that their client was unable to return due to medical reasons, stating that the documents submitted did not indicate that travelling back to Ghana would endanger his life.

“The first letter from his lawyers, dated 31 January 2025, explicitly stated that he had left the jurisdiction indefinitely. This, in our view, reflects his true intent,” Mr. Agyebeng said.

He warned that Mr Ofori-Atta now has two options: return to Ghana voluntarily or face legal action to compel his return.

“Should he fail to return, the OSP will take all necessary legal measures to ensure his appearance before us,” the Special Prosecutor declared.
