A key highlight of the trip was his role as co-chair of the 2026 One Health Summit alongside Macron. The summit brought together global leaders, policymakers, and health experts to address challenges affecting human, animal, and environmental health.
In his address, President Mahama pointed to the growing complexity of global health threats, including emerging diseases and climate-related risks, and called for integrated policy responses. He also emphasised Africa‘s role in driving sustainable, locally led solutions and urged increased international collaboration and investment in health systems.
The “One Health” approach, which links human, animal, and environmental health, remains central to efforts to prevent future pandemics and build long-term resilience.
President Mahama’s participation highlights Ghana’s continued role in global health discussions. His return marks the end of a visit that strengthened diplomatic ties and reinforced Ghana’s position in international health policy engagement.
