The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ghana) has dismissed reports suggesting that it has approved an arrangement for the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to extend its services to Ghanaian drivers living abroad.
In a press release issued in Accra on February 26, 2026, the Ministry said its attention had been drawn to a viral news headline claiming that DVLA staff had been authorised to travel to countries including the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Germany to register and renew driving licences for Ghanaians in the diaspora.

The Ministry categorically denied the claim, stating that it has neither issued directives to Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad nor granted approval to any entity for such an exercise.
It further clarified that it is not aware of any new government policy supporting the purported initiative. According to the statement, there is no record at the Ministry indicating any formal engagement, policy directive, or financial commitment related to the alleged extension of DVLA services overseas.
“For the avoidance of doubt, there has been no formal engagement, no new policy brought to our attention, and no financial commitment,” the Ministry emphasised.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured the public of its continued commitment to transparency, accountability, and financial prudence in public service delivery.
