The Presidency has announced that petitions seeking the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, her Deputies, and the Special Prosecutor have been dismissed after a constitutional review process.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Presidency Communications disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama received seven petitions calling for the removal of the Electoral Commissioner and her Deputies, as well as three separate petitions seeking the removal of the Special Prosecutor.

The statement was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
In line with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 15 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959), the President referred the petitions on November 25, 2025, to the Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, to determine whether they disclosed a prima facie case.
By a letter dated January 26, 2026, the Chief Justice informed the President that no prima facie case had been established to warrant further investigations into the removal of the Electoral Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioners, or the Special Prosecutor.
