Police recover stolen vehicle, exhibits in residential robbery case

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has recovered a stolen vehicle and other items linked to a residential robbery following an intelligence-led operation.

According to a press release dated February 11, 2026, armed men attacked a woman in her residence on December 4, 2025, and made away with her Toyota Hilux pick-up, an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and other personal belongings.

The statement was signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the Criminal Investigation Department.

Police investigations led to the identification and location of a suspect, Clement Kofi Aidoo, who is also known by the aliases Joseph Abequaye, Yaw, and Paddy.

During efforts to effect his arrest, the suspect reportedly attempted to attack officers. In the ensuing confrontation, he was shot and injured. He was subsequently rushed to the Police Hospital for medical treatment but was pronounced dead while receiving care.

The Police retrieved the stolen Toyota Hilux, the complainant’s mobile phone, and several documents from the suspect.

Further investigations revealed that in November 2025, the same suspect allegedly absconded with a Toyota Camry belonging to a police officer.

The officer had engaged the suspect through a recruitment agency to care for his ailing father. The vehicle was later recovered in the Central Region after the suspect abandoned it during a police pursuit.

The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to dismantling criminal networks, recovering stolen property, and ensuring that individuals involved in violent crimes are brought to justice.
