Government releases first-term feeding grant to school feeding caterers

The Government has released the first-term feeding grant to caterers under the Ghana School Feeding Programme, providing much-needed financial relief to service providers across the country.

The release of funds is expected to enable caterers to settle outstanding obligations, procure food items, and ensure the continuous provision of nutritious meals to pupils in beneficiary public basic schools. It also aims to stabilize the operations of the programme and improve the overall welfare of schoolchildren.

Officials say the timely disbursement reflects government’s commitment to sustaining the School Feeding Programme as a key social intervention designed to improve enrolment, attendance, and retention at the basic education level, while also supporting local food production and livelihoods.

Caterers had earlier raised concerns over delays in payments, which they said affected their ability to deliver services effectively. The release of the first-term grant is therefore expected to restore confidence among stakeholders and enhance service delivery nationwide.

Government has assured caterers and the general public that measures are being put in place to ensure more regular and predictable payments, as part of broader efforts to strengthen the management and impact of the School Feeding Programme.
