Awaso, Western North – Western North Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Michael Aidoo, has awarded scholarships to 300 tertiary students in the Region.
The beneficiaries would pursue courses such as Business Administration, Communications, Management, Human Resources, Engineering, Law, Nursing and Midwifery, Business and Finance among several others.
Mr Aidoo, who is also the founder and Chancellor of KAAF University College, said the gesture formed part of his numerous plans to support brilliant but needy students in the newly created region.
Addressing the beneficiaries at Sefwi-Awaso at a short ceremony, Mr Aidoo noted that the only way to rapidly develop as a new region was through education but more importantly tertiary education.
According to him, though the free Senior High School Policy was a good initiative, free tertiary education gave real opportunities to the youth.
“It is at the tertiary stage that provides students with the needed skills and qualifications needed for the job market, which will indeed make them relevant in the nation-building,' he stated
The Regional Chairman had for the past three years offered opportunities to a lot of brilliant but needy people in the region through free tuition tertiary education in his university and other public institutions.
He admonished the students to study hard to encourage him to do more for them and others who might request his support.
Mr Aidoo was confident that with such support, Western North Region was on course to producing adequate human capital for its development.
The beneficiaries who could not hide their joy over the opportunity provided to them to pursue their educational aspirations were full of praise for Mr Aidoo for responding to their plight.
