Winneba Municipal Hospital has confirmed 29 cases of cholera out of 356 reported cases, with one fatality recorded as authorities intensify efforts to contain the outbreak.
According to Dr. Douglas Amponsah, Acting Medical Superintendent of the Winneba Municipal Hospital, all confirmed cases originate from a single family in a specific area within Effutu. He assured the public that the affected individuals have been isolated and are receiving treatment.
“We have set up a cholera isolation centre due to the outbreak. So far, 29 cases have been confirmed, and unfortunately, we have recorded two deaths—one in October 2024 and another in 2025. Most of the infected persons are children, but they are responding well to treatment,” Dr. Amponsah stated.
Health officials have begun contact tracing to prevent the disease from spreading to other parts of the municipality. The hospital remains on high alert, working to curb the outbreak and safeguard public health.
