The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has notified the Greater Accra Regional Police Command of its intention to stage a demonstration against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) over the withholding and cancellation of results for some candidates who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The protest is scheduled for Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 9:00 AM, beginning at Obra Spot, Circle, Accra.
NUGS has strongly condemned WAEC’s actions, stating that thousands of students have been unfairly affected. The union argues that even those whose results have been released faced delays that made them ineligible for admission into public tertiary institutions, as the admission processes had already been concluded. Additionally, students whose results were cancelled are unable to register for remedial exams, as WAEC had closed registration on January 7, 2025, before releasing the results.
Describing the situation as an injustice and an abuse of discretionary power, NUGS is calling for an urgent resolution to ensure that affected students are given a fair chance to pursue higher education.
The union is urging affected students, parents, and other concerned stakeholders to join the demonstration as they push for accountability and fairness in the examination process.
