Dr Mensa Otabil descended on people with such attitude towards prayer, stressing that proper prayer is a conscious effort that involves the thoughts of one's mind and the knowledge of the scripture.
He further stated people do this practice for entertainment and to score time.
He said, “I don't think speaking in tongues is a monosyllable, ajeei ajeii, ajeeii what is that? You know what is it, it is lazy prayer…”
“Why can't we read the Bible ourselves and sometimes it's like a symphonic orchestra, this one makes this sound, and the other makes another sound and they repeat it for five hours and they say we prayed for five hours, no, no, you did voice rehearsal! That's not prayer, that's not, you know why because people don't want the discipline of waiting on God and talking to him and pouring out their desires and asking him to help them,” he added.
Mensa Otabil is a theologian, motivational speaker as well as and entrepreneur. He founded the International Central Gospel Church and also the Central University College. The theologian is the CEO of Otabil and Associates, an executive and Leadership Growth Consultancy in Ghana.
