The Upper West Regional Hospital (UWR) in Ghana is leveraging its strengths, particularly its well-equipped facility, to provide quality healthcare services to the community, according to Dr Robert Amesiya, the Medical Director.
Speaking at a ceremony recognizing the dedication of over 40 staff members, Dr Amesiya highlighted the hospital's strengths in quality equipment, some of which are hard to find in other parts of the country.
“We have been crying so much for seed capital, but I think occasionally we should take a break and think of our strengths.
We have a lot of strengths in this hospital, which we are leveraging on, and our strength is that the hospital is well equipped,” said Dr Amesiya.
The hospital, one of the few in the country offering dialysis services, boasts enhanced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure, including over 800 secret cameras and an electronic log-in system.
Dr Amesiya emphasized the importance of periodic preventive maintenance to preserve the lifespan of the equipment.
Recognizing the commitment of the staff, Dr Amesiya stated, “Our mandate is to provide care to the people, but we need to motivate the people who provide the care.” The hospital aims to contribute to achieving Universal Health Coverage.
The ceremony also acknowledged individuals and institutions, including the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, and Joynews' Upper West Regional correspondent, Rafique Salam, for their contributions to the hospital's growth.
Dr Damien Punguyire, the Upper West Regional Director of Health Services, commended the hospital for ensuring access to quality and affordable dialysis services, bringing relief to the region's residents.
