Two people have been found dead at the Tono riverbank in the Kasena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region after reportedly veering off the road and plunging into the dam.
The victims, both residents of Chaina in the Kasena-Nankana West District, were riding a motorbike from Navrongo towards Chaina on the night of Thursday, February 20, when they lost control and fell into the river.
Their bodies were discovered by farmers on Friday morning when they arrived to irrigate their crops. The police were called to the scene and later transported the bodies to the Navrongo Hospital.
Authorities say the riverbank has deteriorated over time, prompting the construction of barricades to prevent riders from using the risky path. However, many riders continue to bypass the barriers, increasing the risk of fatal accidents.
