Twitter users mock Government over E-levy failure

users have gone agog over speculations that the Electronic Transfer Levy () is not meeting Government's expectations.

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (), Gabby Otchere-Darko, had disclosed that the Electronic Transactions Levy (e-levy) generated less than ¢60 million; close to two months after its implementation.

He said Government was expecting about ¢600million.

After 5 months of stalemate and bashing, the e-levy, after implementation, is delivering only 10% of estimated revenues; our revenues remain very low as compared to the rest of the world; debt levels dangerously high, , like most currencies, struggling against the US

“What options are open to the government? The question should rather be: what option if adopted, will re-inject investor confidence in our economy? Even if we find the $3-5 billion required, will that help? E-levy which was to have given us some 600m by now has done less than 60m,” he said in a tweet on Monday, June 27.

How come the E-levy that was raking in GH₵1 million daily from a single charging entity, fail to push beyond 10% of the target?

Not only are the leaders corrupt, they are also liars

Meanwhile, others have taken a dig at Government for the implementation of the E-levy.

In 4yrs, government had some Gh¢157bn generated through internal revenue. It's sad they now need an opprobrious e-levy to revamp the economy. #AriseGhanaDemo #AriseGhana #SaveGhanaNow

Killer E-levy flop – We gave humane options of raising revenue, they refused: plug revenue loopholes at the ports; stop tax exemptions, pass the law to that effect; act on findings of the Auditor General; cut down on none critical expenditure; luxury travels, legacy projects!

Ghanaians actually meant it when they said they were not ready for the E-levy.
